CEO Of Curb: Simone

The Passion Behind Curb Signage

What makes someone obsessed with curb signs and custom house numbers? For Curb's CEO, it all started with a lifelong passion for typography and vintage signage.

What inspired you to start Curb Signage?

Simone:

" I’ve always been captivated by typography, logos, and the fleeting beauty of ephemera. Vintage logos, old tags, and signage fascinate me, and I’ve collected countless books filled with these relics of design history. Writing in different styles feels as natural as breathing to me.I can shift between them effortlessly, almost without thought. Fonts and signs have always been something I’ve quietly obsessed over, from the pages of my books to the streets I walk. This passion led me to start CURB, with the goal of making great typography more accessible.”

This passion fuels every custom curb sign created by Curb Signage, allowing homeowners and businesses to showcase their style in a unique way.

What Sets Curb’s House Numbers Apart in Canada?

Simone:

“The products we offer are sourced from a leading signage manufacturer, ones that typically supply to traditional signage companies. These are the same premium materials and designs that big businesses have used for years, but they’ve often been out of reach for small businesses, homeowners, and creative individuals.”

How does Canada influence your signage designs?

Simone:

" Canada plays a big role in how I think about signage and design. House numbers have always stood out to me, they're so essential for safety and even legally required before you can move into a home. But growing up, I couldn’t help but notice how plain and generic they all looked. It wasn’t until we started Bradford that I realized just how few options were out there, and honestly, it felt like a missed opportunity to add a bit of personality to something so visible and important.

Canada is growing fast, with homes and businesses popping up in so many different styles from sleek, modern builds to cozy, traditional designs. That variety really inspired me to start CURB. I wanted to give people the chance to choose house numbers and signage that actually reflect their style and space. And, I’ll admit, I also just want to make Canada look better. “

What’s the most memorable project you’ve worked on?

One of the CEO’s standout moments? Seeing Curb’s signage at Vancouver’s Boulevard Restaurant.

"Visiting Boulevard and seeing our custom curb signs in use was amazing. For anyone visiting Vancouver, their oysters are a must-try!"

What’s your process for designing new house numbers?

Choosing your house numbers or curb signs is more than a practical decision it's a chance to express your style. Curb Signage offers a "Find Your Font Persona" quiz to help you get started.

Simone:

"Your home should reflect who you are. The right house numbers can be a small but powerful detail that enhances your personalized curb appeal."

What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?

Simone:

" Moving to Vancouver from Calgary was one of the hardest and best decisions we’ve ever made. Leaving our family behind was tough, and starting fresh in a new city with a newborn and a brand-new business (Bradford Hardware) was full-on. There were moments we felt completely alone, but we kept pushing forward, trusting that the risk would be worth it and it has been.

Vancouver has an interior design community that’s not only incredibly talented but also filled with some of the kindest people we’ve ever met. It’s been an honor to work alongside these amazing designers, and their support has made all the challenges feel so much more manageable.”

Can you share a story of meaningful customer feedback?

Simone:

“I was at the hair salon when a woman excitedly showed me a photo of her sister’s new house numbers. She couldn’t stop talking about how much she loved the way they looked and how they perfectly suited the house. Seeing her excitement and knowing something we created brought that kind of joy was such a cool and rewarding moment. It's feedback like that that makes it all worth it.”

What design trends do you see in Canadian house signage?

Simone:

"My trend forecast is personal style. I think we go from trends to personal style and people start to explore what they really like and send a vibe out rather than follow a style. I think we are done following and done having the same thing as our neighbor."

What should homeowners consider when choosing custom signage?

Simone:

"When choosing custom signage, there are three key things to keep in mind: font, color, and size.First, choose a font that matches your style, whether that’s modern or classic. Next, think about color. High-contrast colors like black, white, or gold are easy to see. Also, consider the background and lighting where the sign will be placed.

Finally, the size should fit your space and the mounting surface. Wood is easier to install on, while stone or brick may need professional help.”

From a love for typography and vintage aesthetics to a mission of empowering individuals and businesses to express their unique identities through custom signage, Simone's journey is both inspiring and insightful. Whether it’s modern house numbers that add personality to a home or bespoke signage that elevates a business, Curb Signage combines premium materials, thoughtful design, and a commitment to storytelling. With a deep connection to Canada’s diverse design landscape and a focus on creating meaningful, lasting impressions, Curb Signage proves that the smallest details can have the biggest impact.
